Our Partnerships

Dominican Republic Medical Partnership

drmpIt all started in the mid 90’s with a compassionate nurse who visited the Dominican Republic and saw a way to make a difference in the lives of thousands. She convinced a retired doctor from the Village Presbyterian Church that teams of volunteers could take life saving medical care and education to some of the poorest people in the western hemisphere and all involved would be richer for it.  The DRMP sponsors medical and surgical teams who provide primary health care to the batey communities in the Dominican Republic province of La Romana.  Their programs, grounded in a community health care promoter program--providing training and support for people who live in these small villages to help care for their neighbors.  These programs are designed to address everything from childhood malnutrition to family planning to disease prevention.
